Co je WTO?

Světová obchodní organizace (WTO) od roku 1995 usiluje o vznik celosvětových pravidel obchodu a jejich dodržování. Svým fungováním je v mnoha ohledech specifickou, závěry totiž mohou být přijímány pouze jednomyslným souhlasem členských států. WTO také udržuje v chodu systém mezinárodního obchodu, prostřednictvím vynucování pravidel, které stojí na pětici jednoduchých principech. Díky tomuto aspektu WTO vypadá spíše jako velké světové tržiště, než klasická mezinárodní organizace jako je třeba OSN či NATO. Státy zde spolu smlouvají a stanovují pravidla pro obchodování.
